A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Entebbe
Volunteers in Entebbe are raising $500 for a solar-powered water pump at Jacaranda Park.
🇺🇬 Uganda238 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Jacaranda Park, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 339 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $340
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $60
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
