A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Eldoret

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Park, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 448 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $290 • Permits and inspections: $30 • Safety equipment and signage: $25 • Tools hire and delivery: $55 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot. - Kato
