A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Cần Thơ

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Cedar Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $550. It will serve about 599 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $550 goes: • Materials: $370 • Permits and inspections: $60 • Safety equipment and signage: $60 • Tools hire and delivery: $60 I hope life is good to you.
