A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Bangkok
Volunteers in Bangkok are raising $900 for a solar-powered water pump at the Unity health centre yard.
Anywhere in the world2,058 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $250, and the remaining cost is $900.
It will serve about 232 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $900 goes:
• Materials: $720
• Permits and inspections: $25
• Safety equipment and signage: $110
• Tools hire and delivery: $45
Glad we found this place.
