A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Rome
Volunteers in Rome are raising $3,000 for a skate park at Acacia Park.
🇮🇹 Italy3,226 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Park, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,000.
It will serve about 259 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,000 goes:
• Materials: $2,500
• Permits and inspections: $140
• Safety equipment and signage: $230
• Tools hire and delivery: $130
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Stay strong, Mazen. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Lapu-Lapu but we're thinking of you. God bless.
It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Rome
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. God bless.
Praying for you, Mazen. Hope this works out for you. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too!
is there anything that isn't money that would help Mazen?
Best of luck, Mazen. Hope you get there. It's not much but it's yours. Greetings from Erie.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mazen.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. materials comes first ($2,500) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.
rooting for you, Mazen. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend
Thanks for sharing this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.

Take care, Mazen. Shared it with a few friends. Love from Jakarta.
So sorry you're going through this. More neighborhoods should do this. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too.
stay strong, Mazen. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
good luck. Hope this works out for you. After 18 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
Stay strong. Hope you get there. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.
