A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Rochester
A community-led a skate park at the Freedom vacant lot that will serve 523 neighbors.
🇺🇸 United States2,027 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 10 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,600.
It will serve about 523 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,600 goes:
• Materials: $1,750
• Permits and inspections: $170
• Safety equipment and signage: $390
• Tools hire and delivery: $290
With deep gratitude,
Araceli
