A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Ottawa

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $300, and the remaining cost is $2,350. It will serve about 188 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,350 goes: • Materials: $1,800 • Permits and inspections: $180 • Safety equipment and signage: $185 • Tools hire and delivery: $185 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
