A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Islamabad
A community-led a skate park at Harmony Park that will serve 211 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world337 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Harmony Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $120, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 211 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $300 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Materials: $185
• Safety equipment and signage: $75
