A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Barcelona
Volunteers in Barcelona are raising $1,450 for a skate park at the Unity vacant lot.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $1,450.
It will serve about 541 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Materials: $1,000
• Permits and inspections: $145
• Safety equipment and signage: $135
• Tools hire and delivery: $170
