A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Southampton
A community-led a sensory garden for children with autism at Sycamore Park that will serve 385 neighbors.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom137 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Sycamore Park, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,100.
It will serve about 385 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,100 goes:
• Materials: $1,600
• Permits and inspections: $220
• Safety equipment and signage: $280

Wishing you the best, Genesis. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Put this on a community board in Lagos this morning. Thinking of Southampton
Hang in there, Genesis. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. After 6 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care.
