A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Sacramento
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a sensory garden for children with autism - we need $2,600 for materials.
🇺🇸 California, United States611 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Lotus Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,600.
It will serve about 271 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,600 goes:
• Materials: $1,550
• Permits and inspections: $85
• Safety equipment and signage: $440
• Tools hire and delivery: $525
With deep gratitude,
Dustin
