A repair café workshop for the Jacaranda vacant lot: help our neighbors in Johannesburg
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Jacaranda vacant lot that will serve 516 neighbors.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $900.
It will serve about 516 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $900 goes:
• Materials: $580
• Permits and inspections: $100
• Safety equipment and signage: $90
• Tools hire and delivery: $130
