A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Thane
A community-led a repair café workshop at Unity Park that will serve 284 neighbors.
🇮🇳 Thane, Maharashtra, India917 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $210, and the remaining cost is $550.
It will serve about 284 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $550 goes:
• Materials: $330
• Permits and inspections: $60
• Safety equipment and signage: $70
• Tools hire and delivery: $90
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Take care. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Thane
