A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Mumbai
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a repair café workshop - we need $550 for materials.
🇮🇳 India1,899 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Union health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $550.
It will serve about 151 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in February and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $550 goes:
• Materials: $440
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $25
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Best of luck. Your post was clear and honest. Thinking of Mumbai.
take care. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Mumbai.
Keep going. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
Thinking of you, Anita. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I'm in retail myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Blessings.

Sending love, Anita. Great idea, hope you get there. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.
