A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Madurai
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Freedom community hall that will serve 287 neighbors.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 287 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $150 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $60
• Tools hire and delivery: $45
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Is there anything that isn't money that would help Madhu?
Thank you. If you're in Madurai I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Fair thing to want to know.
You're not alone. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Love from Makati
