A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Lowell
Volunteers in Lowell are raising $2,950 for a repair café workshop at the Lotus community hall.
🇺🇸 Lowell, Massachusetts, United States2,094 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,250, and the remaining cost is $2,950.
It will serve about 374 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Materials: $1,850
• Permits and inspections: $300
• Safety equipment and signage: $370
• Tools hire and delivery: $430
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

More neighborhoods should do this. All the best.
