A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Los Angeles
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a repair café workshop - we need $2,450 for materials.
🇺🇸 Los Angeles, California, United States354 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 8 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Jacaranda Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $560, and the remaining cost is $2,450.
It will serve about 555 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Materials: $1,350
• Permits and inspections: $440
• Safety equipment and signage: $330
• Tools hire and delivery: $330
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

sending strength, Hazel. Great idea, hope you get there. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best.
how is Hazel doing now?
hang in there, Hazel. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Greetings from London
Thanks for sharing this, Hazel. More neighborhoods should do this. Please keep us posted. Greetings from São Paulo.
Sending strength, Hazel. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust
Hope it all works out, Hazel. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from Pune.
