A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Hamilton
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Lotus vacant lot that will serve 227 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,100.
It will serve about 227 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,100 goes:
• Materials: $1,800
• Permits and inspections: $360
• Safety equipment and signage: $420
• Tools hire and delivery: $520
