A ramp for Mateus: volunteers and tools needed

Mateus uses a wheelchair and can't leave the house because of three steps at the door; we need a few hours of carpentry.

Mateus has used a wheelchair since 2024, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Mateus can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the building-code slope requirement, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate six hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Mateus's family will cook lunch for the team. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  • best of luck. Your post was clear and honest. Put this on a community board in Ikeja this morning. Greetings from Ikeja.

    • Hope things get better soon, Otávio. Your post was clear and honest. After 13 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

      • sending love. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My neighbor in New Orleans donated after I showed her your page.
