A ramp for Hazel: volunteers and tools needed
Help Hazel regain independence: a simple ramp build.
🇺🇸 California, United States703 views
Hazel has used a wheelchair since 2024, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Hazel can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair.
The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two.
The ramp has to meet the local accessibility standard of 1:12 slope, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate six hours of work.
Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Hazel's family will cook lunch for the team.
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
- effort
- one weekend
- format
- In person in Fresno
- skills
- carpentry, measuring, power tools

Sending love, Marilyn. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
Wishing you peace, Marilyn. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double
best of luck, Marilyn. Wishing Hazel a smooth procedure and a full recovery. My neighbor in Santarém donated after I showed her your page. Love from Santarém
Sending good thoughts. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Sent it to 20 people at work. Greetings from Mandaue.
rooting for you. Hope you get there. Love from Mangaluru.
Wishing you peace. I hope things turn around soon. After 20 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Fresno
Take care. Wishing Hazel a smooth procedure and a full recovery. Wish I lived closer to Campinas so I could bring a meal.
