A rainwater harvesting system for the Unity vacant lot: help our neighbors in Kinondoni
Volunteers in Kinondoni are raising $250 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Unity vacant lot.
🇹🇿 Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania695 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $250.
It will serve about 594 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $250 goes:
• Materials: $140
• Permits and inspections: $45
• Safety equipment and signage: $50
• Tools hire and delivery: $15

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Peter.
Materials is $140 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Ask me anything else.
thinking of you and your family. Great idea, hope you get there. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
