A rainwater harvesting system for the Sycamore community hall: help our neighbors in Paarl
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Sycamore community hall that will serve 288 neighbors.
🇿🇦 Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa1,320 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $450.
It will serve about 288 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $450 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $40
• Materials: $380
• Permits and inspections: $30
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
