A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Zanzibar City
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Sycamore vacant lot that will serve 427 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400.
It will serve about 427 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $400 goes:
• Materials: $340
• Permits and inspections: $25
• Safety equipment and signage: $20
• Tools hire and delivery: $15
