A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Semarang
Volunteers in Semarang are raising $150 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Cedar vacant lot.
🇮🇩 Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia1,754 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Cedar vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 337 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $150 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $75
• Tools hire and delivery: $45
• Permits and inspections: $30
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Budi.
Safety equipment and signage is $75 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. I'll keep the page updated.
Keep going, Budi. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Hope things get better soon, Budi. Hope you get there. We're a small family in Alcalá de Henares but we're thinking of you
Stay strong, Budi. Looking forward to the next update. All the best.
Best of luck. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. It's not much but it's yours. Love from Asaba
Praying for you. Looking forward to the next update. Sent it to 12 people at work. Blessings
