A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Pune
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $150 for materials.
Anywhere in the world711 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 165 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $150 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $20
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
• Safety equipment and signage: $65
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Lata.
It's all in the list in the story. permits and inspections is the big one at $20, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Thanks for asking.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I hope November is when things finally get easier.
Keep going, Lata. More neighborhoods should do this. It's not much but it's yours. Take care.
Hope it all works out. Shared this with my family. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
sending strength, Lata. This could happen to any of us. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best
