A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Johannesburg

Volunteers in Johannesburg are raising $950 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Baobab community hall.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab community hall, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $950. It will serve about 598 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $950 goes: • Materials: $730 • Safety equipment and signage: $75 • Tools hire and delivery: $145 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot. - Hlengiwe
