A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Cairo
Volunteers in Cairo are raising $600 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Jacaranda community hall.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $600.
It will serve about 100 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $600 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Materials: $500
