Axel lives with an amputation below the knee. The occupational therapist at the Los Angeles Mobility Clinic has assessed him and recommended a powered wheelchair. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $7,250.
His current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined him to home for 12 weeks.
With the right equipment Axel could go outside without waiting for someone to push. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $7,250 goes:
• powered wheelchair: $6,750
• Fitting and training sessions: $230
• Delivery and set-up: $90
• First-year servicing plan: $180
