A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Toronto
Volunteers in Toronto are raising $1,100 for a playground at the Maple vacant lot.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Maple vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $1,100.
It will serve about 557 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $460
• Permits and inspections: $360
• Tools hire and delivery: $280

Sure. The biggest one is safety equipment and signage, $460. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Thanks for asking.
