A playground: a volunteer-led effort in St. Petersburg
Volunteers in St. Petersburg are raising $4,100 for a playground at the Unity vacant lot.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $4,100.
It will serve about 473 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $4,100 goes:
• Materials: $3,050
• Permits and inspections: $310
• Safety equipment and signage: $400
• Tools hire and delivery: $340
