A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Sheffield
Volunteers in Sheffield are raising $500 for a playground at the Liberty vacant lot.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 547 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $500 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $135
• Permits and inspections: $130
• Tools hire and delivery: $235
Thanks for being kind about this.
