A playground: a volunteer-led effort in San Diego
Volunteers in San Diego are raising $3,150 for a playground at the Unity health centre yard.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $3,150.
It will serve about 455 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,150 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $210
• Materials: $2,600
• Safety equipment and signage: $340
