A playground: a volunteer-led effort in San Cristóbal de las Casas

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Pioneer Park, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 336 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $300 goes: • Permits and inspections: $60 • Tools hire and delivery: $150 • Safety equipment and signage: $90 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.
