A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Nairobi

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 10 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Pioneer vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $550. It will serve about 544 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $550 goes: • Materials: $440 • Permits and inspections: $20 • Safety equipment and signage: $60 • Tools hire and delivery: $30 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.
