A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Lagos
A community-led a playground at Union Primary School that will serve 268 neighbors.
🇳🇬 Nigeria1,315 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 13 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $100, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 268 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $50
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Materials: $410
Glad we found this place.
