A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Kikuyu
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a playground - we need $300 for materials.
🇰🇪 Kikuyu, Kiambu, Kenya544 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $95, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 403 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $80
• Materials: $200
• Safety equipment and signage: $20
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Is there anything that isn't money that would help Wekesa?
Thank you. If you're in Kikuyu I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Appreciate you taking the time.
So sorry you're going through this, Wekesa. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My neighbor in Tokyo donated after I showed her your page. Blessings
Hang in there, Wekesa. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best

Hope it all works out, Wekesa. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We're a small family in Birmingham but we're thinking of you. Love from Birmingham.
