A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Dehiwala
A community-led a playground at the Liberty vacant lot that will serve 435 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $600.
It will serve about 435 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $600 goes:
• Materials: $380
• Permits and inspections: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $70
• Tools hire and delivery: $95
