A playground: a volunteer-led effort in Bronx
Volunteers in Bronx are raising $1,650 for a playground at the old Freedom bus depot.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Freedom bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $1,650.
It will serve about 368 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,650 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $370
• Materials: $1,100
• Permits and inspections: $180
