Athens
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Baobab Park, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,450. It will serve about 581 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,450 goes: • Materials: $940 • Permits and inspections: $130 • Safety equipment and signage: $250 • Tools hire and delivery: $130 Thank you for reading my story. - Charalambos

Updates from Charalambos

  1. Update from Athens: I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. We're at 12% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. We're at 18% thanks to 6 of you. I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. More news soon.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($795 in total) I made the first payment toward permits and inspections. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

More neighborhoods should do this. I'm in farming myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Greetings from Kampala
