A partial thyroidectomy for Yarden: covering what insurance won't
After a large ovarian cyst, Yarden was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In March I was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst. My surgeon at Tel Aviv University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for May. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $11,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $6,550 short.
Doctors at Tel Aviv University Hospital told me a large ovarian cyst will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a call-centre agent, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $11,000 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a call-centre agent have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $6,550 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,250
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $2,050
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $340
• Post-operative medication: $380
• Physiotherapy sessions: $390
• Travel and lodging for the family: $140
Every share and every dollar helps.

Sending strength, Yarden. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Greetings from San Cristóbal de las Casas
