A partial thyroidectomy for Stijn: covering what insurance won't
After gallstones with repeated infections, Stijn was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Stijn was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections in July. The surgeon at Amsterdam Community Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $7,000 short.
my son has been in and out of Amsterdam Community Hospital since July. The doctors say gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Stijn struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Stijn won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
