A partial thyroidectomy for Sebastião: covering what insurance won't
Sebastião needs a partial thyroidectomy at Juiz de Fora General Hospital and the family is $1,650 short of the hospital's estimate.

Sebastião was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in May. The surgeon at Juiz de Fora General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,200, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,650 short.
my father has been in and out of Juiz de Fora General Hospital since May. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Sebastião struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Sebastião won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,650 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $150
• Post-operative medication: $55
• Travel and lodging for the family: $75
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $840
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $530
