A partial thyroidectomy for Naledi: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled a partial thyroidectomy in April is out of reach without help covering $1,650 of the cost.

In January I was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated. My surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,050, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $1,650 short.
Doctors at Saint Elizabeth Hospital told me a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a farm laborer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,050 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a farm laborer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,650 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $450
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $760
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $105
• Post-operative medication: $75
• Physiotherapy sessions: $175
• Travel and lodging for the family: $85

how is Naledi doing now?
Gave what I could, wish it was more. I have a 6 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Love from Berlin!
Sending good thoughts, Naledi. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near East London.
Hope it all works out, Naledi. Your post was clear and honest. Put this on a community board in Seville this morning
your post was clear and honest. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Lalitpur.
hope things get better soon. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. All the best
Thanks for sharing this, Naledi. Shared this with my family. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best.
