A partial thyroidectomy for Kiprop: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled a partial thyroidectomy in November is out of reach without help covering $150 of the cost.

In August I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Dar es Salaam General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $250, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $150 short.
Doctors at Dar es Salaam General Hospital told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $250 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $150 goes:
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $40
• Physiotherapy sessions: $50
• Travel and lodging for the family: $60
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

sending strength, Kiprop. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
