Kariuki was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in December. The surgeon at Dar es Salaam University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,400, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,055 short. my husband has been in and out of Dar es Salaam University Hospital since December. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,400 is more than we can find. While we wait, Kariuki struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Kariuki won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,055 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $430 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $400 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55 • Post-operative medication: $30 • Physiotherapy sessions: $135 • Travel and lodging for the family: $5 Thanks for being kind about this.
