A partial thyroidectomy for Eli: covering what insurance won't
After a torn ligament that needs reconstruction, Eli was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Eli was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in March. The surgeon at Leeds General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $4,600 short.
my husband has been in and out of Leeds General Hospital since March. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Eli struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Eli won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $4,600 goes:
• Post-operative medication: $140
• Physiotherapy sessions: $570
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,050
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,550
• Travel and lodging for the family: $290
