A partial thyroidectomy for Ayumi: covering what insurance won't

After a hernia that has become strangulated, Ayumi was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Ayumi was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in March. The surgeon at Shinjuku Community Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,500, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $3,300 short. my sister has been in and out of Shinjuku Community Hospital since March. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Ayumi struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Ayumi won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $3,300 goes: • Post-operative medication: $180 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,950 • Travel and lodging for the family: $170 With deep gratitude, Sakura
