Arnel was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in March. The surgeon at Iloilo City University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,300, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,150 short. my husband has been in and out of Iloilo City University Hospital since March. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,300 is more than we can find. While we wait, Arnel struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Arnel won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
