My family left Sudan 12 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in San Jose. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in August.
I was a mechanic in Sudan, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent).

• Phone and internet for school and job search: $165
• Beds, table and basic furniture: $1,050

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Emery.
Language classes and bus passes is $510 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
