A fresh start in San Diego: help the Shevchenko family resettle

After fleeing Eritrea, the Shevchenko family has arrived in San Diego with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

San Diego
My family left Eritrea 12 months ago after we were targeted for our work. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in San Diego. We're a family of four and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was a pharmacist in Eritrea, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent). Where the $3,850 goes: • Language classes and bus passes: $590 • Rent deposit and first month: $2,300 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $740 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $220 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Kendall
